Abstract

Hydraulic calcium silicate cements are inorganic materials which hydrate in contact with water and also interact with environmental fluids. The most well-known hydraulic cement used in dentistry is mineral trioxide aggregate, which was firstly patented by Prof. Torabinejad in 1993 as a tooth filling material.

Since then, a various MTA-related hydraulic cements have been introduced in the market and become gradually indispensable materials in dentistry, especially for endodontic treatments. Emerging evidence suggests that hydraulic cements are capable of generating favorable outcomes in vital pulp therapy, even in mature teeth with symptoms indicative of irreversible pulpitis.

This presentation summarizes the most recent information regarding the use of hydraulic calcium silicate cements for vital pulp therapy, this in terms of dentin remineralization and pulp repair.  In addition, some side projects for instance the development of a next generation of biosafe composite, the curing profile of bulk-fill composites and the gelatinolytic activity of dentin upon adhesive treatment will be introduced.

A light lunch will be provided after the seminar.
