Researcher biography

Dr Hisham Mohammed is Chair of Orthodontics and Director of the Specialist Orthodontic Training Programme at The University of Queensland. He is a registered specialist orthodontist in Australia and New Zealand with expertise in craniofacial growth and development, dentofacial orthopaedics, miniscrew implants, and clear aligners.

Prior to joining UQ, Dr Mohammed held academic appointments at the University of Edinburgh and the University of Otago, where he was involved in undergraduate and postgraduate orthodontic education. With more than a decade of academic experience, he is committed to preparing the next generation of orthodontists.

As a clinician-scientist, Dr Mohammed has made significant contributions to evidence-based orthodontics. He has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications in leading international journals and has established an active clinical research programme since joining the School of Dentistry. His work has received international recognition and has been honoured with several prestigious awards, including the Sir John Walsh Award and the IADR Hatton Award.

Dr Mohammed is actively involved in research training and supervision, having supervised more than 25 postgraduate candidates, including Doctor of Clinical Dentistry and HDR students. He maintains extensive research collaborations with leading academics and research groups across Europe, North America, and the Middle East. In addition, Dr Mohammed serves on multiple academic panels shaping national orthodontic training standards. He is frequently invited to examine specialist orthodontic trainees and holds Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
