Vision

Our group aims to improve oral health through endodontic therapies that maintain and rebuild healthy tissue compartments.

Research Focus

The dentine-pulp complex is a highly specialized tissue compartment that is challenged by a variety of noxious stimuli, leading to inflammation and even to tissue necrosis. Clinically this type of tissue damage may be treated by complete removal of the pulp or by the application of appropriate materials. To this end, we are developing assays to better understand the pulpal response to biomaterials and specifically the modulation of inflammation during this event.

The other main research stream is related to optimising root canal instrumentation with the goal to aid resolution of periapical inflammation and provide minimally invasive treatment. In this space, metallurgical and engineering studies are undertaken using specific equipment such as fatigue testing rigs and micro-computed tomography.
